Where lawful and practicable, individuals may choose to remain anonymous or use a pseudonym when interacting with DPA. However, this may limit our ability to provide certain services or respond to specific requests (e.g. CCTV access).
8. How We Collect Personal Information
We collect personal information directly from you when you:
- Complete tenancy or service application forms
- Submit a request for CCTV footage or access
- Enter a property managed by DPA (via surveillance or access logs)
- Communicate with us by email, phone, or in person
- Are involved in an incident or investigation related to our properties.
We may also collect personal information from third parties (e.g. insurers or law enforcement) where lawful and relevant.
If we receive personal information that we did not request, we will determine whether it could have been lawfully collected. If not, we will destroy or de-identify the information as soon as practicable.

10. CCTV Surveillance
- DPA operates CCTV systems in common areas of managed properties for security, safety, and compliance with legal obligations. Footage is considered personal information when individuals are identifiable.
- CCTV footage is securely stored and protected from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access.
- Access is limited to authorised personnel only, and activity is logged.
- CCTV signs are prominently displayed in monitored areas to notify individuals of surveillance.
- Footage may be used for investigation of complaints, safety incidents, maintenance issues, or breaches of conduct.
- DPA may disclose footage to law enforcement or other authorised parties, if required by law.
- Individuals may request access to footage in which they are personally identifiable, as permitted under the Privacy Act 1988 (Cth). Such requests must be submitted in writing to DPA’s Property team at [email protected].
- All requests are subject to review in line with the CCTV Policy (QSP-DPA002) and applicable privacy legislation.
How we treat personal information that is also sensitive information
11. Sensitive information is a sub-set of personal information that is given a higher level of protection under the Australian Privacy Principles. Sensitive information means information relating to your racial or ethnic origin, political opinions, religion, trade union or other professional associations or memberships, philosophical beliefs, sexual orientation or practices, criminal records, health information or biometric information.
12. We will not collect sensitive information without your consent. The type of sensitive information we may collect about you includes your membership of a political association, professional or trade association or trade union where you choose to enter these details when using our Site and services.
13. Provided you consent, your sensitive information will only be used and disclosed for purposes relating to the primary purpose for which the sensitive information was collected, including providing our property management services to you. Although, sensitive information may also be used or disclosed if required or authorised by law.
Your rights and controlling your personal information

19. Unsubscribe: To unsubscribe from our email database or opt-out of communications (including marketing communications), please contact us using the details below or opt-out using the opt-out facilities provided in the communication.
Storage and security
20. We implement appropriate physical, technical, and administrative safeguards to protect personal information from misuse, interference, loss, and unauthorised access, modification, or disclosure.
21. Personal information, including CCTV footage, is retained only for as long as necessary for its intended purpose, or as required by law, after which it is securely deleted or destroyed.
22. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed as totally secure. Accordingly, although we strive to protect such information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us or from our online products or services and you do so at your own risk. Once we receive your transmission, we take reasonable steps to preserve the security of the information in our own systems.
Cookies and web beacons
23. We may use cookies on our Site from time to time. Cookies are text files placed in your computer’s browser to store your preferences. Cookies, by themselves, do not tell us your email address or other personally identifiable information. However, they do allow third parties, such as Google and Facebook, to cause our advertisements to appear on your social media and online media feeds as part of retargeting campaigns.
